Award-winning rappers Eminem and Snoop Dogg are all set to bring the metaverse and NFTs to the MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) on Sunday, 28 August 2022. The rappers will be performing their song called “From the D 2 the LBC,” released earlier this year. The song is inspired by the Otherside metaverse and Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) NFTs.
The Otherside is one of the popular upcoming metaverse projects created in a collaboration project between Yuga Labs’ BAYC and gaming giant Animoca Brands. The performance is likely to bring the project to the spotlight and could be seen as another win for Web 3.0 as a whole.
Some context
Eminem has a collection of 28 other NFTs and a hip hop themed Bored Ape which was exclusively created for him. He bought the NFT for 123.45 ETH in December 2021.
Snoop Dog, on the other hand, is even more active within the NFT space. He has his own NFT collection called The Doggies, in addition to owning a Bored Ape—purchased in 2021, a year that saw a lot of celebrity NFT hype.
MTV also adds “Best Metaverse Performance” category
The VMAs are embracing the metaverse in other ways too. Going forward, MTV will also be recognizing metaverse performances with a “Best Metaverse Performance” category being added to its annual awards.
The move comes in light of the fact that several artists have already hosted concerts in it. Nominees for the award this year include Justin Bieber, Rift Tour (featuring Ariana Grande), and Twenty One Pilots.
