American automotive company Tesla has released a new Cyberwhistle that can only be bought by CEO Elon Musk’s pet memecoin, DOGE. The collectible, modeled after its Cybertruck series, was listed on its online product catalog on 14 September.
Tesla’s CEO Elon Musk also took to Twitter to encourage people to buy the product and “blow the whistle!” The limited edition whistle priced at 1,000 DOGE (₹4820) sold out within three hours.
Why DOGE?
The reason the Cyberwhistle can be purchased only with Dogecoin of course is because Musk is long-standing supporter of the coin. Musk once proclaimed that “Dogecoin is better than Bitcoin for payments.” The fact that Musk’s companies Tesla and SpaceX started accepting Dogecoin as payment for merchandise helped make crypto mainstream.
However, he had toned down on his support following a $258 billion lawsuit alleging that DOGE is a crypto Ponzi scheme. The latest revelation therefore comes as a small and pleasant surprise to the crypto community.
More about Tesla’s Cyberwhistle
This is not the first time Tesla is selling a whistle. Last year, the company launched a similar whistle, inviting users to “blow the whistle on Tesla.” The product sold out in the blink of an eye then too.
This year Musk has been engaged in a legal battle with Twitter, and a whistleblower from the company was subpoenaed last month in an attempt to gain information about spam accounts at the social network. The current whistle-selling is thus being seen by some as a dig at the social media giant.
The collectible is described on the website as being made of medical-grade stainless steel. It reportedly has an “integrated attachment feature for added versatility.”
