Meta widens its NFT rollout plan, adds wallet support

Meta widens NFT rollout

According to Meta Newsroom’s Twitter handle, Mark Zuckerberg has announced that Instagram is starting to roll out NFTs to a wider audience. Zuckerberg-led Meta plans to foray into 100 additional countries spread across the Asia-pacific, African, Middle Eastern, and American regions.

Earlier, in May 2022, Meta first envisioned its NFT-based approach for Instagram. The initial plan was to test the concept with a handful of creators in the US. The test project included support for users looking to connect their digital wallets to Instagram profiles, tag creators and collectors, and share collectible statuses.

Instagram already had over two billion active users across the globe back then, so the move drew a lot of attention. But the specifics of how Meta planned to transform that vision into reality were not clear until now.

And the expedited rollout announcement is not the only thing that came to light today. Meta is also expanding its blockchain support for Instagram by allowing users to purchase NFTs from Ethereum, Polygon, and Flow.

In addition, the company announced support for several third-party web wallets, including Trust, Dapper, MetaMask, and more.
