THNDR Games, a Bitcoin gaming company, released a play-to-earn (P2E) version of the popular card game Solitaire called Club Bitcoin: Solitaire. The new version of the game can be played on mobile phones and players can earn BTC for playing the game.
By launching the game, THNDR Games aims to increase Bitcoin adoption across the world, with a special focus on its targeted audience: women and emerging markets.
Solitaire players can play the OG computer game and earn Satoshis, tiny fractions of Bitcoin (BTC). THNDR Games announced the release via its Twitter account on 19 September.
Solitaire is a classic computer game initially released in 1990. The Microsoft version of Solitaire was installed in over 1 billion computers, and as of 2020, the game has 35 million monthly users and 100 million daily plays.
New gameplan
THNDR Games’ change in strategy is based on the fact that 63% of all women play mobile games, and about 60% of THNDR’s users are from emerging markets. With Club Bitcoin: Solitaire, the company hopes to capitalize on the popularity of both Bitcoin and the Solitaire game while tapping into emerging economies as they are the fastest growing segment in the industry.
Lightning Network popularized use of Bitcoin in gaming
The concept of using Bitcoin in gaming is not new. In 2012, Satoshi Dice, an online bitcoin casino, became quite popular. However, high fees and low transaction speed made use of Bitcoin as a virtual gaming currency impractical. But with the launch of Lightning Network, BTC as a virtual gaming currency has made much headway.
Lightning Network is a layer 2 protocol designed to solve Bitcoin’s scalability problem by allowing transactions to be processed faster.
