What Is a Public Key in Crypto?
In crypto, a public key is the part of your key pair that you can share with others. It is often shown as a wallet address (a shorter form derived from the public key). When someone sends you crypto, they send it to this address. The network checks that the sender signed the transaction and that the address is valid, then credits your balance.
Relationship to Private Key
The public key is mathematically derived from the private key, but you cannot reverse the process to get the private key from the public key. So sharing your address is safe. You should never share your private key or seed phrase with anyone.
Practical Use
Always double-check addresses before sending. One wrong character can send funds to the wrong place with no way to reverse. For large transfers, send a small test amount first. Use only addresses for the correct network (e.g. Ethereum address for ETH, not Bitcoin).
