What Is a Crypto Whitepaper?

A crypto whitepaper is a document that explains a cryptocurrency or blockchain project: the problem it solves, how it works, the technology, tokenomics, and sometimes the team or roadmap. Bitcoin's 2008 whitepaper by Satoshi Nakamoto is the classic example. Serious projects usually publish one before or at launch.

What to Look For

Check whether the problem and solution are clear. See if the tech and economics are explained in a way you can follow. Look for realistic claims versus hype. Missing or vague whitepapers are a red flag. So are promises of guaranteed returns or "revolutionary" claims with no substance.

How to Use It

Use the whitepaper as one input for research, not the only one. Check if the project has delivered on its promises over time. In India, regardless of the whitepaper, gains from buying and selling crypto are taxable. Do not invest based on a document alone.
