Crypto dominance (often "Bitcoin dominance") is the share of total cryptocurrency market cap that one asset represents. If the entire market is worth $2 trillion and Bitcoin is worth $1 trillion, Bitcoin dominance is 50%. It is used to see whether money is flowing into Bitcoin or into altcoins.

How People Use It

When Bitcoin dominance rises, Bitcoin is often outperforming altcoins. When it falls, altcoins may be gaining relative to Bitcoin ("altcoin season"). It is a simple way to gauge market rotation. It does not predict the future; it describes the current split of value.
