What Is Crypto Mining?
Crypto mining is the process of validating new transactions and adding them to the blockchain. In networks that use proof of work (like Bitcoin), miners use powerful computers to solve cryptographic puzzles. The first to solve gets to add the next block and earn a reward (new coins plus transaction fees).
Why It Exists
Mining secures the network. To attack the chain, an attacker would need more computing power than the rest of the miners combined, which is very expensive. Mining also distributes new coins in a rule-based way instead of a central authority printing them.
Costs and Reality
Mining uses a lot of electricity and specialized hardware. In many places, small-scale mining is not profitable. Large mining farms operate where power is cheap. Some blockchains have moved to proof of stake, which does not need mining. In India, mining rewards are generally taxable as income.
