What is OKCash (OK)?
Future of OK Cryptocurrency and know how to buy OK

#1 – What is OKCash?

OKCash: The Basics

  1. OKCash is an open-source digital currency that enables its users to make transactions almost instantaneously. It boasts of a confirmation rate higher than most cryptocurrencies around.
  2. OKCash a simple cryptocurrency, belonging to an age where blockchain tech was just starting to become popular, and doesn’t seem to have anything revolutionary or exciting going on under the surface. It is just another digital currency with the advantage of much faster transactions.

OKCash Development

  1. OKCash started out in 2014 as Pimpcash, and was rebranded in February 2015 to OKCash by the lead developer who calls himself OKToshi.
  2. OKToshi has plenty of experience in software development, having created ROKOS, a Linux-based OS for IoT devices like Raspberry Pi, which, incidentally, comes with a built-in wallet for OKCash as well as some other cryptocurrencies.
  3. The cryptocurrency, however, prides on being open-source and completely decentralized, and anyone can contribute to the OKCash code. It has a large community of creative developers who have come together to help develop the currency.

#2 – What are the advantages of OKCash?

OKCash Technology

  1. OKCash is one of the earlier coins to use the Proof-of-Stake technology, which requires much less energy to mine than proof-of-work coins.
  2. For the first 15 days after its launch, OKCash was based on Proof-of-Work, and the mining lasted for this period without halving, so it was fair for all the miners, even if they started mining late. It became fully Proof-of-Stake after this period, fulfilling its goal of hybrid initial distribution.

#3 – How to buy and store OKCash coins (OK)?

How to buy OKCash

You can buy OKCash coins (OK) from nearly 10 exchanges, for mainly Bitcoin, but also Ether, Tether, DOGE, Litecoin, etc. The exchanges include Upbit, Yobit, Bittrex, Cryptopia and others.

OK coins can also be bought with fiat currencies at a few exchanges, including LiteBit (Euro), Upbit (Korean Won) and Yobit (USD and RUR).

  1. These are just platforms where you can buy or sell OK coins, but the prices differ marginally on each one, and it becomes difficult to decide which to buy from. This is where CoinSwitch comes in. One of the best cryptocurrency exchanges out there, it supports more than 140 coins and 45,000 pairs of cryptocurrencies. You can choose any pair you want with your OK token, and CoinSwitch will help you decide by displaying the prices all at the same place.
  2. What’s more - with CoinSwitch, you do not need to create wallets on the exchange you’re buying from. Instead, all transactions can happen to and from your very own private wallets.

OK Storage

  1. OKCash has its own native wallets, which include a desktop OKCash wallet compatible with Windows, Linux and Mac OS and a mobile wallet compatible with Android and iOS.
  2. It also has a paper wallet, available on GitHub. In addition, you can store your OKCash coins on the Coinomi wallet.

Trends so far

  1. As expected when it comes to a cryptocurrency which has been around for almost four years, OKCash has had its fair share of volatility. Its value has ranged from its minimum of 0.000038 USD in March 2015 to its peak value of 0.76 USD in September 2017. Its price was 0.000217 USD when it was launched in December 2014, and it costs 0.0666 USD currently (as of July 2018). For all its volatility, however, the currency has never crossed the $ 1 boundary.
  2. With such a low individual price, it’s unsurprising that even with a fairly large circulating supply of around 74 million OK coins, the cryptocurrency isn’t very high up in global rankings. It is ranked 586 worldwide in terms of market cap, as of July 2018.
  3. Such low rankings are quite disappointing for a cryptocurrency which is almost four years old. Since OKCash doesn’t have anything revolutionary or new planned, it’s not very likely that its value will shoot up like that of Bitcoin or Ethereum, but that doesn’t mean its value won’t appreciate. OKCash has good potential, being simple to use, open-source and fast, so it’s likely to appreciate in value in the long term.

#5 – What makes OKCash different from other cryptocurrencies?

  1. OKCash belongs to an era of simpler cryptocurrencies, back at a time when the blockchain and its benefits were just beginning to be tapped into. It still has one of the fastest transaction times among all cryptocurrencies, and it is simple to mine and use.
  2. OKCash was also one of the first cryptocurrencies to have a hybrid initial coin distribution system, having supported PoW mining for the first 15 days before becoming completely PoS-based.
  3. Another thing that sets it apart is the fact that, unlike most cryptocurrencies, the OKCash coin allows long-term staking as well as short-term staking.

#6 – Should you invest in OK?

  1. OKCash has interesting trends; remaining practically stagnant for almost two and a half years, before hitting a peak and falling back. It has a few steep peaks in 2017, but 2018 again sees a depreciation in its value. For a coin so old, the numbers are not very appealing, either.
  2. However, the simplicity of this cryptocurrency must be admired. In a world with increasing complexities, sometimes, simplicity is necessary, and OKCash is one of the cryptocurrencies which answer that need.
  3. The added benefit, of course, is the low cost of the coin right now, meaning that buying some coins won’t empty your bank account and even if the currency doesn’t appreciate by much, you wouldn’t have lost much of your money.
  4. OKCash seems more like a long-term investment option with moderate returns rather than a short-term investment, or one with obscenely high returns.
